Eastern Victoria GP Training acknowledges Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the Traditional Owners of the lands where we work, meet and live.

EV is committed to developing strong relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities throughout our training region, built on trust and mutual respect and through a willingness to better understand and honour Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and history.

EV understands that improving the health status of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples is a national priority. As a training organisation responsible for the delivery of the Australian General Practice Training program, EV is in a strong position to positively impact health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Our training program and corporate activities contribute to shaping the next generation of general practitioners with the skills and expertise to practice in a culturally respectful and safe manner.

With almost 80 per cent of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population living in regional and metropolitan areas of Australia, EV registrars, and all GPs that we work with, are likely to deliver primary health care services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people during their working life.

EV delivers specific Aboriginal Health Workshops for registrars, meeting the requirements of both the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM) and Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) curricula. In addition to these workshops, Aboriginal health and cultural aspects are embedded within the broader training curriculum.

Registrars with a further interest in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health are able to take up a placement in one of five active Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services in our training region.
