Emily was the recipient of the EV GP Training Award at the recent Monash student awards. She had the highest mark in her cohort and was delighted to win the award. Her interest in GP led her to be involved in the Gippsland Student Medical Network (GSMN) and she has undertaken all her training in Gippsland. She is considering her options in GP and O&G. Congratulations Emily!

Great to be part of the Austin Health Careers Forum again this year. Around 50 doctors attended to get guidance on their career options hearing from a range of specialists including GP. GP Training has a long association with this event and in fact was the 15th year we have been involved! MIPS has been involved for 13 years and sponsor to most of those. EV is pleased to share its 2018 Annual Report. EV had a successful year in 2018 and we are proud of our achievements: entering into a new funding agreement for delivery of the AGPT program in our region, successful management of 365 registrars across 207 practices, enhancing our AGPT program through research, successful outcomes in our RAP targets, launching shared staff values and the first year of EV Awards. RWAV hosts the VHRA awards annually. This year a number of EV stakeholders were acknowledged for their outstanding contributions to healthcare in rural and regional Victoria. Dr David Campbell, GP Supervisor, Lakes Entrance, Length of Service Award. Dr Suzanne George, GP, Gippsland, Length of Service Award Dr Philip Huguenin, GP, Korumburra, Length of Service Award Gayle Block, PM, Wonthaggi Medical Group, Practice Manager Award. Congratulations to these and all VHRA recipients.

The RACGP has formally signed an agreement with the Federal Government in what is described as the final step towards profession-led Australian general practice training. Read the RACGP media release.

ACRRM medical educator Elise Ly shares her experiences, where she has been and what she loves about being a Rural Generalist. “Cradle to grave medicine, exploring the art of medicine as well as the science of medicine, learning to adapt and remain flexible when not all the resources are at your fingertips, the natural link to international health, having continuity of patient care and being taught every day about connection and humanity in medicine: that’s why I love rural generalism.” Read the article here.

Dr Preeya Alexander, GP and EV ME, like most of us, leads a busy and fulfilled life. As a working mother with a husband in the medical profession as well, fitting everything in while looking after herself can be tricky.
