Education Quality Improvement 2019 has been another full year with an abundance of achievements and progress made across the breadth of EV’s program. There is also plenty that is currently ‘on the go’. 2020 promises to be an exciting year as EV continues to be an organization that embraces opportunity. In the research portfolio, EV’s research on remodelling GP training was recently published in Australian Journal of GP, find the article here. The research team is currently examining registrar transition into GP placements. Next year’s focus will be on a curriculum for GP supervisors. The quality assurance team is evaluating the in-practice two-way feedback, External Clinical Teaching Visits (ECTVs), training support and registrar workshops. We are particularly interested in how these activities are contributing to overall registrar learning. This evaluation will inform decisions how EV uses, and develops, these activities in the future. A survey will be circulated shortly to supervisors and registrars. Please be sure to have your say when the survey hits your inbox! In the Supervisor and ME Professional Development (PD) portfolio we farewell Dr Patrick Kinsella…

Supervisor and ME PD Workshop Format The standalone one day Supervisor Workshops at Hawthorn this year have proved quite popular so we have decided to continue to hold some one day meetings in the metro space next year. The one day meetings this year were held to replace the residential workshops which did not happen in 2019 because EV hosted GPTEC. Quite a number of supervisors told me they liked the dedicated 1 day meeting rather than a half day which often occur in the evening after a hard day at the office. It allows more time to clearly focus on educational matters. So look out for these 1 day events as well as the normal sub regional meetings in 2020. We will again have 2 Supervisor residential workshops in 2020. The dates are May 1-2 in San Remo and October 9-10 in the Yarra Valley. Dr Susan Wearne will be the key note guest speaker. Susan spent many years as a GP in Alice Springs but more recently is the Senior Medical Advisor, Health Workforce Division of the Department…

Staff gathered in both EV offices in Hawthorn and Churchill to celebrate National Close the Gap Day and National Reconciliation Week. EV Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) EV has commenced the development of our 2019-2021 Reconciliation Action Plan. We have surveyed staff, Board Directors and key stakeholders to learn how we can build on our successes from our current RAP and challenge ourselves individually and collectively to champion reconciliation in our professional and personal lives. VAHS Planning Meeting In March EV hosted the Victorian Aboriginal Health Strategy Planning Meeting in Hawthorn. The meeting was attended by EV and MCCC staff including Dr Liz Wearne, Marlene Drysdale, Brian Stevens, Nicole Cassar of EV, Aunty Nellie and Dr Ed Poliness from MCCC.  What a great day to come together.
