National Reconciliation Week Promoting Women’s Health As part of our Reconciliation Action Plan, EV supported a Reconciling Women’s Health day at Ramahyuck where 50 participants from Sale and Morwell communities came together for activities promoting prevention, early detection and early intervention and also learned about access to relevant local service providers. In Morwell, GP Registrar, Dr Renuka, presented to the group, promoting Healthy living for healthy lives. She also presented gift bags to participants. Organisers reported the event provided a relaxed environment where the women felt culturally safe allowing them to fully participate in health and wellbeing conversations. NAIDOC Week Flag raising event Members of the Aboriginal Health Team were pleased to join Ramahyuck staff, community members and other invited guests at their Flag Raising event held on Monday 09 July. The program included children’s dance group, music, and an Awards Ceremony where community members were recognised for contributions in various categories.  EV congratulates Ramahyuck on a terrific event. Nomenclature Principles EV has established Nomenclature Principles which guide appropriate language use when writing or speaking about Aboriginal and Torres Strait…

Review of national and international approaches to GP training and education delivery It has been a busy year for the EV research team. We have recently completed, in collaboration with MCCC, a review of national and international approaches to GP training and education delivery to inform future program development. Over the past 12 months we have consulted leaders in medical education and GP training across Australia and five ‘NICHE’ countries: New Zealand, Ireland, Canada, Holland (Netherlands), and England (UK). From these consultations we have documented how GP training and education is delivered, and the key areas of challenge, tension, innovation, and leadership. This consultation has been paired with a review of programmatic information via public documents, and a review of published literature. We hope that this research will inform EV, MCCC, and other RTOs in their program development and contribute to national discussions on GP training and education. Findings from the research have been presented and discussed at numerous national and local forums including GPTEC18, General Practice Medical Educator (GPME) workshops, Lead Medical Educator Committee meetings, and EV supervisor and…

Most people spend more time and energy going around problems than in trying to solve them. – Henry Ford Making a mark: EV has been very well represented at recent conferences and challenged audiences with their presentations, workshops and plenary sessions. James Brown, Heather Grusauskas and Belinda Garth brought EV innovations and ideas to the AMEE international conference in August. Over 35 EV staff and supervisors attended GPTEC 2018 in Adelaide recently. The individual activities have been listed elsewhere, but suffice to say, the informal feedback from others attending their presentations and workshops was very positive. Congratulations to all involved. Now the attention moved to GPTEC 2019 to be held in Melbourne as a joint MCCC and EV (ad)venture. The Management Committee, Program Committee, Social Committee and Marketing Committee are seeking ideas and contributions to make, what may be the final GPTEC, a meaningful success as a celebration of General Practice and General Practice Training as well as a significant contribution to an innovative transition of training responsibilities to the Colleges. R-evolution – Redefining the future is the theme. A…

Welcome to our Spring edition of the EV News. EV are now contracted to continue the Australian General Practice Training program for a further three years through to the end of 2021. While not surprising it nonetheless provides a ‘line in the sand’ and we can plan effectively for the upcoming triennium. Key to this is effective engagement with both the RACGP and ACRRM to ensure GP Training in Eastern Victoria continues to be delivered via a dedicated community of GP Supervisors, Practice Managers and Medical Educators. Our staff can also look forward with certainty as we head into next year. The 2019 General Practice Education and Training Convention (GPTEC) will be held in Melbourne at the Crown Conference Centre, from 3-5 September, 2019 EV is partnering with the other Victorian RTO (MCCC) to deliver the 2019 Convention. The Convention is an important annual GP education event which brings together GP educators from around Australia to learn, inform and enhance our quality program. I look forward to seeing you there. EV have recently completed comparative research into Models of GP…
