Close The Gap Day

The Close the Gap campaign had its origins in 2008 when the Australian Government and the Opposition committed to close the health inequality gap between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and non-Indigenous [sic] Australians by 2030.

According to ANTaR (Australians for Native Title and Reconciliation), who have taken on the role of hosting National Close the Gap Day, “Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples can expect to live at least 10 years fewer than other Australians… and experience higher rates of preventable illnesses such as heart disease, kidney disease and diabetes.
