Happy new year, and after a successful first year, welcome to our second year of operation. The Board started 2017 meeting on 17 January for a professional development workshop on strategy and risk. This resulted in a review and refresh of a Strategic Directions 2016-18 document and development of a Strategic Plan. Regarding 2016, I am pleased to advise that we achieved our operating targets and finished the end of year in a sound financial position, this will be reported to members at our 2nd Annual General Meeting which is to be held 18 April 2017.
During February the Board committees and the Regional Interest Advisory Group (RIAG) met. The Finance Audit and Risk Management Committee are overseeing independent financial audit of 2016 and the 2017 Budget, the Clinical Governance and Education Quality Committee the bi-college accreditation program, the Nominations and Remuneration Committee the elected and appointed Director positions and the RIAG feedback on the start of the new training year. The Board has also been working on the Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) which has been submitted to Reconciliation Australia for approval. We anticipate approval of the RAP by mid-year.
I take this opportunity to congratulate Minister Greg Hunt on his appointment as the new Federal Health Minister, it is pleasing to hear that he has declared his commitment to the value, role and importance of general practice. We look forward to working with his department and the Colleges to educate, train and support quality GP Fellows to meet community needs.
