AGPT Program

Funded by the Australian Government, the Australian General Practice Training (AGPT) programme provides comprehensive and flexible training which leads to fellowship of either the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) or the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM). Either fellowship allows a doctor to become vocationally registered as a general practitioner and practice unsupervised within Australia.

The training program is overseen by the Commonwealth Department of Health and is delivered by Regional Training Organisations (RTOs). In Australia, there are 19 RTOs. Eastern Victoria GP Training delivers training in eastern, north eastern and south eastern Melbourne metropolitan areas, the Mornington Peninsula, and Gippsland region of Victoria.

Both the RACGP and ACRRM set standards and training curriculum in accord with each College’s requirements. In addition, they manage the assessments and exams that lead to the awarding of fellowship of their respective College. It should be noted, however, that in order to obtain fellowship, a registrar is required to complete all assessments and complete all requirements of the training program. Information relating to the standards and curriculum can be found on each college website (RACGP and ACRRM) while more information about training program requirements can be found one the Why train with EV page.
