Supervisor Regional Meetings
The regional groups in the metropolitan region will again be meeting in August. The topic of the workshops will be “Expose Your Teaching”. All supervisor are encouraged to bring a short recording of a teaching session they have done recently to discuss with their colleagues. Recording yourself can be challenging but we know it is a powerful learning tool everyone is encouraged to be involved and take part. Patrick has already provided a recording of a session to get the ball rolling. We will also have an update about what is happening in EV.

Supervisor Liaison Officer (SLO) Update
EV has 2 SLOs-Gerard Connors (Metro) and Fred Edwards (Gippsland). The role of the SLOs is to provide advice to the CEO, senior management and the Medical Education team on supervisor matters and act as liaison between EV and supervisors and practices. For industrial matters we recommend contacting GPSA (GP Supervisors Australia), membership is free for both supervisors and practice staff. Fred is an EV Director which gives supervisors a voice at Board level.

Both SLOs are members of the Practice Accreditation Committee and a subcommittee reviewing practice subsidies and supervisor payments. This subcommittee has the challenge of revising the different payment systems that both RTOs had and producing a common payments system within budgetary constraints similar to the Medicare rebate.

A ‘Regional Interest Advisory Group’ consisting of senior program staff, medical education management, SLOs, RLOs and practice managers will have its first meeting in August. This is another valuable forum for supervisors and practice managers to have input into decisions that affect them.

The first EV supervisor residential was held at San Remo in May and was very successful. Many supervisors said how much they enjoyed meeting new colleagues. The second residential will be held Yarra Valley Heritage on 14-15 October.

Patrick Kinsella (ME responsible for GPS professional development) and Judith Culliver (ME responsible for Accreditation and Practice support) have developed a paper on GPS PD to ensure consistency across the region.
