Rural Junior Doctor Training Program
EV received an extension of the existing contract to continue co-ordinating the Rural Junior Doctor Training Program. This program is delivered in partnership with the Latrobe Regional Hospital as part of the Gippsland Intern Training Program. For 2021, we welcomed Leongatha Healthcare and United Medical Centre, Moe as host practices for Interns replacing Maffra Medical Group and Breed St. Traralgon. We would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the significant contribution both Maffra Medical Group and Breed St. Traralgon provided as part of this program hosting Interns and sincerely thank all staff involved for their commitment and support.
We look forward to continue delivering this program for the remainder of the 2021 training year and working with our other host practices, Heyfield Medical Centre and Trafalgar Medical.
Rural Generalist Trainee State-wide Workshop Program
The ongoing impact of COVID restrictions has resulted in the Workshops for the Rural Generalist State-wide Program to continue being delivered online for semester 2021 for GP Obstetrics and GP Anaesthetics Trainees. To date, we have provided the following workshops which have all received fantastic feedback as a result of the speakers and sessions provided. We even had a guest speaker from Canada successfully join the recent GP Anaesthetics session!

Saturday 29 & Sunday 30 May 2021
GP Anaesthetics
Saturday 20 March 2021
Saturday 29 & Sunday 30 May 2021
We would like to thank the Victorian Rural Generalist Program Clinical Leads, Dr Greg Coates and Dr Graham Slaney and Gippsland based facilitators, Dr Warwick Pill, Dr Patrick Ruane and Dr Antony Wong and all guest speakers from across Australia for their significant input to ensuring the Workshops continued to be delivered in the current environment.
EV has also supported the expansion of the Rural Generalist State-wide Workshop Program to be delivered for the Rural Generalist Paediatric and Emergency Medicine Trainees from across the State. Workshops were held on 1 May 2021 for both discipline groups and we would like to thank Dr David Wilson, VRGP Clinical Lead Paediatrics and Dr Ian Wilson, VRGP Clinical Lead, Emergency Medicine, for the delivery of a both Workshop programs that were well received by all trainees.
EV has been supporting the State-wide Workshops, mainly for GP Obstetric and GP Anaesthetic trainees, since its inception (and prior to this via our legacy RTO). We are proud to support what has become a world class program and the opportunity to work with a fantastic knowledgeable and highly experienced Faculty spread throughout Victoria as well as supporting trainees through their journey. With the establishment of the Victorian Rural Generalist Program, it is now timely to transition this program under their umbrella to continue into the future from July 2021. EV will deliver their final workshop for the Paediatric trainees on Saturday 19 June 2021.
“Opportunity Gippsland – a rural solution” Videos
After the positive feedback from #OpportunityGippsland, we wanted to give our future and current registrars further insight into EV’s Accredited practices. We have developed 3 video profiles for Korumburra, Traralgon and Mallacoota medical practices to highlight the breadth of practice available to registrars training in our rural region.
Explore what is on offer and be a part of the rural solution and watch the videos here on our YouTube Channel.
