What work will the registrar be doing?

The post in Paediatrics provides an opportunity to work in a variety of different areas within a health service including inpatient wards, outpatient clinics and emergency departments and includes ward duty and attendance at deliveries as well as providing consultation and assistance to both the Emergency Department and post-natal wards.

Skills to be gained within the post:

The post would suit a registrar interested in gaining extra skills in paediatrics. It does not replace the paediatric component of training that is required before commencing in general practice. While ward rounds and outpatient clinics are opportunities for informal teaching, there is also dedicated teaching time and an educational program in a variety of formats such as didactic teaching, case review and journal club. As well, there are courses in paediatric and neonatal advanced life support, visiting specialist presentations, morbidity/mortality audits, perinatal review meetings and paediatric study days which registrars can attend.
